A Small Bookshop · Est. 2026

A room of books, records, and evenings in a corner of the city.

We are a small village bookshop that opened this year. New and secondhand titles, a shelf of vinyl, a papelaria table, and a back room where we host readings, small talks, and the odd Sunday listening session.

The shop

LIVRARIA DA VILA is a small independent bookshop that opened in early 2026 on Avenida Roque Petroni Junior in São Paulo. The name is what we call it in Portuguese, and it means what a small village bookshop tends to be anywhere: a quiet room with more books than customers on most weekdays, and a bench by the window where nobody minds if you sit and read for a while.

The front of the shop is books. Along the side wall we keep a small selection of vinyl, mostly Brazilian and some jazz and classical, and a papelaria table with notebooks, cards, and prints from local illustrators. At the back there is a room with a few rows of folding chairs that we use for readings and cultural evenings.

Everything is chosen and shelved by the two of us who run the shop. Ask us for a recommendation and you will get an honest one. Ask us to order a title and we will try to have it in for you by the following week.

What is on the shelves

Six modest sections, all curated by hand.

i.

Books

Contemporary fiction, non-fiction, essays, poetry, art books, and a shelf of classics that keeps rotating. Every title picked in-house.

ii.

Vinyl & Music

A small selection of vinyl, mostly Brazilian pop and MPB, some jazz, some classical, and a bin of used records worth looking through.

iii.

Papelaria

Notebooks, letter paper, pens, greeting cards, and a wall of small prints and postcards from illustrators we like.

iv.

Small press & zines

A rack for independent presses, chapbooks, and self-published zines. We take submissions from local authors and artists.

v.

Second-hand corner

A short shelf of used books in good condition, restocked from customers who trade them in for shop credit.

vi.

Local writers

A small dedicated shelf for writers from São Paulo, including a few titles from friends who could not find a shelf anywhere else.

What happens in the back room

01

Readings

Author readings, once or twice a month, usually on a Thursday evening. Free and open to whoever walks in.

02

Book clubs

A monthly book club that reads whatever we choose together. A small poetry group meets on the first Wednesday.

03

Listening sessions

Sunday afternoons, once in a while, we put a record on and everyone sits and listens the whole way through.

04

Small talks

Short talks with editors, illustrators, and translators. Not lectures. More like a conversation with a drink in hand.

Come see us

If you are in the neighbourhood, drop in. If a title is not on the shelf, ask us and we will do our best to bring it in.
